Source: Phillies GM Amaro speaks with Boras Yesterday

The Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. spent a lot of time on the phone with the agent of Michael Bourn yesterdayAccording to a source close to after losing out on outfielder B.J. Upton to division rival Atlanta Braves and Denard Span to also division rival the Washington Nationals the Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. spent a lot of time yesterday on the phone with super agent Scott Boras. Boras is the agent of what is in my opinion the best center fielder left available for the Phillies; Michael Bourn. It’s known well in baseball circles that the Phillies and Scott Boras haven’t got along well since last year’s mis-handling …

Week 13 Fantasy Football Waiver Adds

Eagles RB Bryce Brown is a Top Fantasy Football Pick-Up This Week!Just in time, here are your Fantasy Football waiver targets for Week 13.  These players are likely available in most formats and have sleeper appeal this week.

Bryce Brown, RB Phi – Brown is likely going to get the starting nod this week against Dallas as LeSean McCoy has not been cleared to practice this week. Brown ran for 178 yards and two scores Monday night as he tore up a porous Panthers’ run defense. He did fumble twice and ball security is always an issue with rookies being grated playing time, but he should continue to receive the lion’s share of touches this week. If he’s still available, consider him a RB2 or flex …

The Eagles Prove They Are A Team Of Destiny

Eagles Quarterback Nick Foles fumblingLast night, the Eagles met the Carolina Panthers in a marquee Monday Night match-up between two teams battling for their rightful place in the basement of the NFC. The game would be Philadelphia’s biggest test so far this season. Sure, they had lost six straight. But those were against decent football teams. If they truly have aspirations of being the worst team not only in the NFC, but in the NFL, they’d have to rise to the occasion.

They would do just that.

From the outset, it was a hard fought game. On the Eagles opening drive, quarterback Nick Foles marched his team down the field, getting into Carolina’s red zone with relative ease. Things did not look good for the Eagles’ high draft pick aspirations early on. But right then, Foles showed the type of poise …

Phillies’ Carlos Ruiz Suspended 25 Games

Phillies Catcher Carlos Ruiz after World Series Victory in 2008Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Catcher Carlos Ruiz has been suspended for 25 games for his second violation of Major League Baseball’s Drug Program. With this being his second violation for the use of Adderall he will be eligible to return on April 28th. The first violation for what is deemed not a steroid just leads to more tests and a second failure is what triggers the suspension. Ruiz is coming off his best season in the majors and the 34 year old had his $5,000,000 option picked up by the Phillies.

Erik Kratz will be the starting Phillies catcher at the beginning of the season until Chooch returns. He was planned on entering Spring Training as the leading …

Eagles Release Former Pro Bowl DE Jason Babin

Eagles release defensive end Jason BabinIn stunning (or not so stunning) news today it’s been announced that the Philadelphia Eagles have released former Pro Bowl Defensive End Jason Babin. The 32-year-old 8-year veteran went to the last two Pro Bowl’s but has suffered a huge decline this year for the Eagles. He excelled in playing in the Wide 9 base under Jim Washburn for a total of 30.5 sacks in the two seasons before this season where he only had 5.5 sacks and 21 solo tackles. Babin earlier this year angered fans by questioning their loyalty from the vile chants that he supposedly heard. Babin’s regression is not surprising in the 8th year of a career of a defensive end but the staggering falling off from last year is what makes …

The Lyin’ in Winter…Tough Selling for Philly Sports

It's Been a Tough Winter as a Philly sports fanFor the first time in quite a few years, the Philadelphia sports scene is poised to enter the winter season without the warmth of optimism for any of our major teams. To make things even worse, ownership is deciding that the fan bases that virtually pay the athletes’ exorbitant salaries in this town are either inattentive, stupid, gullible, or all of the above. In any event, the goodwill that many of our local team owners and general managers have so effectively established over the past decade or more is now being slowly but surely dismantled because they are taking for granted the very source of their success.

To begin with, there are the Sixers. The optimism that had basketball fans in this city …

BJ Upton the Wrong Guy for the Job for the Phillies

Phillies are looking at an outfielder...could it be BJ Upton? The Phillies have made it clear B.J. Upton is the team’s top priority in free agency. He’s 28-years-old, right handed and can hit for power. He seems like the perfect candidate to hit behind Ryan Howard. Upton would fit in perfectly with the current Phillies lineup, but for all the wrong reasons.

Upton hasn’t hit over .250 since 2008. He’s had at least 150 strikeouts since 2009, 169 last season being the highest. To put the numbers in perspective, Upton had 633 plate appearances last year. That means he struck out just about every 4 times he went to the plate. This Phillies team already struggles to put men on base. Adding Upton to the equation makes them worse …

76ers Week-in-Review: 11/18-11/21

The Wells Fargo Center after a 76ers WinThe past week for the Philadelphia 76ers has been an interesting one: three games, two wins, and one loss.  With their record at 7-5, the Sixers currently rank 3rd in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, behind the New York Knicks (1st) and the Brooklyn Nets (2nd).  Although I believe they will be able to surpass the Nets eventually, they haven’t necessarily been playing like a force with which to be reckoned.  While they beat the Cavaliers in their first match up, they dropped the ball on the second.  They had to come back late in the game against the Raptors, the team that is in last place in the Atlantic Division.  For the Sixers to come up big in the East, there …
