Week 9 Waivers: Fantasy Football Last Minute Pickups

Eagles TE Brent Celek Should Be a Waiver Wire Pickup This WeekIsaac Redman, RB Pit – Both Jonathan Dwyer and Rashard Mendenhall are listed as doubtful, Redman is expected to get the start Sunday against a Giants defense the averages 113 rushing yards allowed per game.

Pierre Thomas, RB NO – With Darren Sproles (broken hand) out Thomas should receive the bulk of the rushing duties. He may lose goal line touches to fellow RB Mark Ingram, but Thomas is the more skilled pass catcher and blocker for the Saints.

Vick Ballard, RB Ind – Donald Brown returned to the fold last week and looked impressive, but he’s been downgraded to questionable after Friday’s practice experiencing swelling in his knee. Brown will be a game time decision against a tough Miami run defense and if he can’t go look for Ballard to pick up the load. Looking forward Ballard has a more favorable match up next Thursday against Jacksonville, so you may want to stash him now.

Ryan Broyles, WR Det – With Nate Burleson placed on IR, Broyles steps up as the third wide out and has scored touchdowns in his last two games. Titus Young’s return should limit Broyles fantasy value, but there are plenty of passes to go around from Mathew Stafford.

Cecil Shorts, WR Jac – There aren’t too many players in Jacksonville to get excited about, but Shorts’ 33 targets, 195 yards receiving, and one touchdown in the last two weeks have increased his stock.  Laurent Robinson is expected back this week but Shorts should continue to see opportunities.

Santana Moss, WR Was – Emerging as Robert Griffin III’s favorite red zone target, Moss has three touchdowns in his last two contests. Difficult match up this week against the Panthers, but playing in the slot he’ll continue to see looks. His sure hands and veteran leadership should increase his role on offense with Fred Davis done for the year.

Josh Gordon, WR Cle – Gordon fell back to Earth last week after he failed to reach the end zone, but in his previous three weeks he posted 240 yards receiving and four touchdowns. The return of WR Greg Little will steer some of the touches away from Gordon, but this rookie has quickly proven why the Browns spent a second round pick on him in July’s supplemental draft. He’s quickly built chemistry with fellow rookie Brandon Weeden and will remain the Browns’ vertical threat.

Dwayne Allen, TE Ind – Rookie Coby Fleener is expected to miss a couple of weeks and that could open up a larger role for Allen in Indy. The Colts Andrew Luck has played much better at home than on the road this season, and rumor has it Coach Chuck Pagano might be in the stands watching this week at Lucas Oil Stadium. Pagano continues his battle with leukemia and has been an inspiration to both the players and fans. His presence Sunday could electrify the crowd and motivate the offense. On a short week, Allen also has a favorable match up week 10 against Jacksonville.

Brent Celek, TE Phi – Facing the Saints Monday night, look for Michael Vick to spread the ball around early and often. New Orleans hasn’t stopped anyone this season offensively and they rank 30th in the league in pass defense, giving up over 304 yards per game.
