Flyers trade for Brian Boucher & Release Schedule

Flyers Goaltender Brian Boucher returns for his 3rd stint with the team.In a move that surprised no one considering he’s been practicing in Voorhees all off-season the Flyers reacquired Brian Boucher from the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend. They also┬áreceived┬áMark Alt from the Hurricanes and sent Luke Pither back to complete the trade. This now gives the Flyers another option at goaltender if Ilya Bryzgalov or Michael Leighton struggle. This will be Boucher’s 3rd time with the club.

Boucher has a career record with the Flyers of 73-66 (120-137 overall) and last played for the team in 2011. He was not re-signed after helping the Flyers get to the playoffs in a memorable shootout victory over the New York Rangers on the last day of the season when the team decided to sign Bryzgalov. The 36-year-old goalie was a 1st round draft pick of the Flyers back in 1995 and debuted with the team during the 1999-2000 season. Boucher lifetime is 21-18 in the playoffs and has only played in one playoff game when he wasn’t a Flyer. Boucher’s career GAA is 2.71 but last year he struggled in his backup role with Carolina going 1-6-1 with a 3.41 GAA.

The 21-year-old Mark Alt is a right-handed defenseman currently playing for the Minnesota Golden Gophers in college. He was the 53rd overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft by Carolina and has struggled a bit this year. In 21 games he’s scored no goals and only has three assists. Last season in 43 games for Minnesota he scored 5 goals to go with 17 assists.

Luke Pither is a 23-year-old center who struggled with the Phantoms in 2011 and has played for the ECHL Trenton Titans so far this season. In 11 games he has 2 goals and 1 assist. He was loaned to Wheeling for a good part of this season as well as in 24 games with the Nailers he has 9 goals & 13 assists.
