Flyers Ready for Home Opener & Penguins Lineup

The Flyers warming up during the Open Practice yesterday at the Wells Fargo Center,Last night the Philadelphia Flyers showed it’s appreciation for the hockey fans that hung tough and held a free open practice at the Wells Fargo Center giving away close to 20,000 tickets. A little bit over 15,000 fans showed up to witness what was Claude Giroux‘s first public appearance since being named the new Flyers captain and his team played a joke on him by walking down the aisle with him and when he reached a certain point the rest of the team stopped and Giroux walked onto the ice by himself and the team laughed as the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

The team put on a show during the practice but it was just a warm-up for tomorrow’s Home (and Season) Opener at the Wells Fargo Center when the Flyers will take on Sidney Crosby & the Pittsburgh Penguins at 3PM. The game will be televised on NBC and the Wells Fargo Center will sure to be rocking for the first NHL hockey in the building since the New Jersey Devils eliminated the Flyers on May 8th 3-1 to end the season in the playoffs.

Today it was announced that the lines tomorrow will be as follows:

1st Line
LW Scott Hartnell – C Claude Giroux – RW Brayden Schenn
2nd Line
LW Maxime Talbot – C Sean Couturier – RW Jakub Voracek
3rd Line
LW Wayne Simmonds – C Scott Laughton – RW Matt Read
4th Line
LW Ruslan Fedotenko – C Eric Wellwood – RW Zac Rinaldo

Defensive 1st Pairing
Braydon CoburnNicklas Grossmann
Defensive 2nd Pairing
Kimmo TimonenLuke Schenn
Defensive 3rd Pairing
Andrej MeszarosKurtis Foster

Tom Sestito has made the team mainly because Danny Briere is not ready to start the season and will begin on the injured list. Sestito might be a healthy scratch tomorrow. Briere was not part of the Open Skate last night and hasn’t skated with the team in the last two days but has practiced on his own. Meszaros is ready to start the season and I would expect him to end up with Coburn as the top pairing a week or two into the season as he gets healthier. Obviously Ilya Bryzgalov is expected to start for the Flyers. The 18 year old Scott Laughton has a chance to make this team just like Couturier did last year but it will all depend upon what he shows in his first 5 games. Past that if the team wants to send him back to the juniors they have the option at that point.

The lines for the Pittsburgh Penguins courtesy of http://thehockeywriters.com/the-pittsburgh-penguins-2013-roster/ are as follows:

1st Line
LW Chris Kunitz – C Sidney Crosby – RW Pascal Dupuis
2nd Line

LW Tanner Glass – C Joe Vitale (C Dustin Jeffrey) – RW Craig Adams

Defensive 1st Pairing
Simon DespresKris Letang
Defensive 2nd Pairing
