Hey Cary Williams, It Does Matter What We Think

Cary Williams has not gotten off to a good start with the Eagles or it's fans.New cornerback Cary Williams hasn’t played one game in an Eagles uniform, but he has already vaulted to number one as my most hated Philadelphia athlete.  If you’ve been avoiding all major media and social media outlets who discuss Philadelphia professional sports this summer you probably haven’t heard the imprudent interview Cary Williams gave on the Mike Missanelli show on 97.5 the Fanatic last week.  I think fellow HighPhiver Joe Corrado summarized it best via his twitter account @corrado_19 when he said, “Imagine the ‘For who? For what?’ interview on steroids.”

Williams, a Cornerback who was signed as a free agent this offseason after winning the Super Bowl …

Changes Continue at Eagles’ OTA’s; Depth Chart Still Far From Final

Nick Foles & Michael Vick are competing for the #1 Quarterback job for the Philadelphia Eagles.Across the NFL, tension and excitement have begun to rise, as fans and players alike are beginning to feel the impending season. Mini camp will begin June fourth, and until then all fans must sate their  appetites by focusing on voluntary OTA’s. The Eagles have held their OTA’s’ across the street from Lincoln Financial Field, at the Novacare complex. Though we are still months from the first real kickoff, there are still some exciting story-lines to quench the thirst of fans in anguish, as the Phillies haven’t been worth watching thus far in 2013.

The most talked about item from the Eagles’ practice facilities, is the open competition between …

Can Chip Kelly Take the Eagles & the Fanbase Into the Next Era?

Chip Kelly has the chance to bring the Eagles back to greatness.Having gone to Eagles games since 1978, I can say with full confidence that this is the most exciting off-season since Hurricane Buddy blew into town. Chip Kelly has a rather large task in front of him. He has to change the mindset of a fan base that has been beaten into submission by the Andy Reid Era. For 14 seasons we were subjected to a weekly demonstration of trying to fit Square Pegs into Round Holes.

Since taking over in January, Chip, and his offense that he employed at Oregon, has been scrutinized, and put under the microscope by every analyst, talk show host, columnist, and bar patron in Eagles Nation.  ‘How can he …

Donovan McNabb to Retire as an Eagle, Time to Retire the Hate

It is time to retire the hate for Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb who will retire as a member of the team this season. Can we get one thing straight…I want to see a Super Bowl Victory as much if not more than anyone. I have been to almost every Eagles home game since 1979. I have seen great players and teams, and some of the worst football ever played or coached. From Dick Vermeil, to Andy Reid and everything in between. With that said I can’t figure out one thing, Why is there still so much hate for Donovan McNabb?

Since the time he was drafted 2nd overall, and the pick was infamously booed, …

Post NFL Draft Q&A: Shaping the Potential Eagles Roster

What kind of impact will Lane Johnson have on the Eagles this season? With off-season workouts well under way, and the NFL draft in the rear view mirror, lets reflect on the draft, and make some projections for the upcoming season. We asked HighPhive.com contributor and Eagles/NFL Draft Writer for FootballExtraPoints.com Josh Collacchi, and HighPhive leading Eagles contributor/sports analyst for 91.3 WVUD Ben Haley on their thoughts about the Eagles draft.

Q: Lane Johnson of Oklahoma was drafted fourth overall and became the Eagles first round pick on April 25th. How does Johnson fit on the current offensive line for the Eagles? And what does the acquisition of Johnson mean for the future of Danny Watkins, Todd Herremans, and Jason …

At Last! The 2013 NFL Draft Begins

The 2013 NFL DraftEtta James sang it right in 1960, at last! Months of speculation have culminated in this moment; the 2013 NFL draft has begun, and the first pick is Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan. Andy Reid begins anew in Kansas City and goes back to his roots by selecting an offensive lineman in the first round.  As the Eagles’ former skipper, Reid drafted a lineman in all but four of his twelve first round draft choices. The Eagles did not pick in the first round in both 2007 and 2008. Fisher was just the 4th tackle taken with the first overall selection in the modern NFL draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars time in the spotlight is over, as they have selected Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M. Joeckel will be a much needed centerpiece as a Jaguar, and will influence the …

Will the Philadelphia Eagles Draft Tavon Austin? Expect the Unexpected

There are reports that Tavon Austin could be the Eagles 1st Round Draft Pick in tomorrow's 2013 NFL Draft.During an interview with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic, Sal Paolantonio offered a word of caution to Philadelphia Eagles fans.  He said, “If the two tackles [Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher] are off the board by the fourth pick, don’t be shocked if the Eagles select wide receiver Tavon Austin.”  Missanelli was appalled and pressed Sal Pal further, but Sal Pal simply responded, “All I’m saying is, don’t be shocked.”  I was driving home from work at the time and nearly swerved off the road.  Could Howie Roseman really have the diminutive West Virginia product that high …

NFL Releases 2014 Schedule; Good News or Bad for the Eagles?

This will be an interesting handshake after the Eagles & Chiefs game this season in Philadelphia. The NFL has released the 2014 season schedule, and Eagles fans are in for a stressful experience from day one. The Eagles will open the Monday night football season on September 9th taking on last year’s NFC East Champions, the Washington Redskins in their home town. Eagles fans will have to wait an additional day for Chip Kelly‘s debut as coach, but this season opener should be well worth the wait. In addition to six divisional games, the Eagles will play the AFC West, NFC North, as well as conference foes: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Arizona Cardinals.

Strength of schedule can be the most important factor working against a team …

In Howard Roseman I Trust

Howie Roseman will make the decisions for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft.I pledge allegiance to Howard Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles…

Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are so linked in perpetuity that it may be easy to forget that Reid didn’t engineer the Philadelphia Eagles’ 1999 draft.  While the rookie head coach may have had some input, he did not draft Donovan McNabb, Tom Modrak did.  But my guess is, Big Red was kind of ok with it.  So here we are, an era later, and the Winter of Eagles’ Discontent has come and gone and left quite a mess in its wake.   But winter is no longer coming.  There is another fresh start ahead, a new …

Chip Kelly’s Pre-Draft Watch List; Getting to Know Some Potential Draftees

Geno Smith could be at the top of Chip Kelly's want list on Draft Day for the Eagles. The time between free agency and the NFL draft is the slowest portion of the NFL off-season. The free agent pool has been depleted, new rules implemented (sorry Marshawn), new logos created (looking good Miami), playbooks explored and re-written, all that is left is the final piece of the NFL personnel puzzle: the NFL draft. The Philadelphia Eagles will draft fourth overall in this year’s draft, and have eight other selections in addition. The Eagles have draft picks in each of the first five rounds, and four selections in the final round of the draft. With much help needed on the roster, and an …
