76ers Fall Apart Against the Jazz and lose 107-91

Damien Wilkins defends Randy Foye on a jumper in the Jazz's victory over the 76ers Monday night. Not even Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates could be this unpredictable. The 76ers went in to Utah to play the Jazz (35-36) and on a high after beating up on the Kings to end their 15 game away losing streak. What they ran in to was a Utah team that was desperate to end their own 4 game losing streak and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Jazz jumped out to an early lead and it was over before it could even get good as they defeated the 76ers 107-91.

The 76ers had too many turnovers, thirteen, that led to too many points, twenty-four, for the Jazz. …

76ers End Road Losing Streak in Royal Fashion, Beating the Kings 117-103

Jason Thompson and Thaddeus Young go after a loose ball in the 76ers win over the Kings. When you’re the lowest scoring team in the league, chances are that you’re going to have a tough time winning basketball games. If you’re the Philadelphia 76ers, that has meant that you’re losing 15 straight road games. But, all of that is over now. Last night, in Sacramento, the 76ers (27-42) exploded for a 117-103 victory over the Kings (25-46).

The Kings are not known for their defense, as they allow the most points per game in the NBA and the 76ers took full advantage of that.  Dorell Wright led the 76ers with 22 points and was one of six players to finish in double …

Philadelphia 76ers finish off the TrailBlazers 101-100

Spencer Hawes takes a fade away shot in the 76ers victory over the Trail Blzaers Monday night. If you’ve been watching the 76ers all season then you’ve probably noticed that they give you fits each game. The constant jump shots, lack of inside force, silly turnovers, and inability to close out games has driven me insane over the course of this season. But, those are not the 76ers of the past week. They’ve won 3 of 4 and almost ended the Miami Heat’s win streak in their one loss. Last night, the 76ers (26-40) held on at the end, made some crucial plays that they would have missed earlier in the season and beat the Portland Trailblazers (31-35) by a final of 101-100.

LaMarcus Aldridge was the latest …

76ers Become Victim #20 in a Row, Falling to the Heat 98-94

LeBron James puts down a dunk in the Heat's 20th straight victory by defeating the 76ers 98-94 Wednesday night. You don’t win 20 games in a row without knowing how to close out games. You also don’t lose 13 out of 15 games if you know how to close them out. That’s the tale of the two teams that battled last night in Philadelphia. The hometown 76ers (24-40) fell to the defending champion Miami Heat (49-14) by a final score of 98-94. It just as easily could have been the 76ers on the winning side of that score as they played some of their best basketball against the best team in the NBA.

Closing out games used to be something that people …

Hawes leads the 76ers over the Nets 106-97 After a Long Weekend

Jrue Holiday goes up for a shot in the Philadelphia 76ers win over the Brooklyn Nets Monday night. What’s the best cure for a two weeks stomach virus? If you said a 76ers win, then you would be correct. First, on Friday night in Miami, the Heat (47-14) beat up the 76ers 102-93. Then, on Sunday in Orlando, the Magic (18-46) beat down the 76ers 99-91 behind Jameer Nelson and that Nikola Vucevic kid that we dumped for the city’s biggest bowler. If those two things got you down, like they did me, then last night when the 76ers played the Nets (37-27) you would have felt a lot better watching the 76ers win 106-97 to end the …

76ers Back to their Old Habits, losing 90-87 to the Wizards

John Wall celebrates making a shot at the end of the Washington Wizards win over the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday night.Old habits die hard and so it is with the hometown Philadelphia 76ers. They fall behind, fight back, and just don’t have enough to complete the comeback and taste victory. A day after doing just that to the Golden State Warriors and snapping a seven game losing streak in the process, the 76ers (23-35) fell to the Washington Wizards (19-39) by a score of 90-87 on Sunday night.

John Wall single-handedly beat the 76ers in the end, scoring the final six points of the game, including blocking Evan Turner’s final shot and hitting a 20 foot jumper …

Without Andrew Bynum, are the 76ers drowning?

Can the 76ers wait much longer without Andrew Bynum? The Philadelphia 76ers are a team built around a big man. The problem is, the big man has not played all season. The 76ers lost again a few nights ago to the Brooklyn Nets 109-89, and the story was the same. There was no presence in the middle, offensively or defensively as the 76ers were out-rebounded 50-32. Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen are just not big or strong enough (mentally and physically) to handle the job of a big man in the NBA. It is obvious this team is built around Andrew Bynum, but without him, this team is just not good enough.

With Bynum, the 76ers shooters have space, and they will be able to put …

76ers end Road Trip with 3 Straight Losses

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Doug Collins watched his team struggle at the end of their 8 game road tripThe Philadelphia 76ers were riding high coming off a big victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on New Year’s Day at the Staples Center. Everything was clicking well for them until they left Los Angeles for Phoenix and the team ended the road trip losing 3 straight games. It is their longest losing streak since they lost 5 straight in the middle of December and the 76ers are looking at the wrong side of the .500 line at 15-20.

They fell short to the Suns on Wednesday by 6 but were completely blown out and dominated by the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio …

Where have all the 76ers gone?

The 76ers' Nick Young has not been able to replace Lou Williams. The 76ers started off their 2012-13 campaign with an emotional victory over the Denver Nuggets and former teammate Andre Iguodala.  As it stands, they are in a tailspin.  What began as a season full of possibilities and a very high ceiling has 76ers fans wondering whether or not the team will even sneak into the playoffs at season’s end.  Almost no one saw this coming.  A team that took the championship caliber Celtics to the limit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals just six months ago can barely manage a win now.  What has changed so dramatically for this team this season?

During the offseason, it was thought that the Sixers had drastically improved their team by getting …

The 76ers had no chance against the Rockets

Kwame Brown provided little help the Philadelphia 76ers in their loss last night to the Rockets. It’s another night and another loss for the 76ers when they faced the Houston Rockets and lost 125-103. When you’re facing a team that has a 7 foot center that’s averaging a double double, you might want to have a couple of big guys to play. Maybe, change your strategy a little, knowing that your team is already shorthanded and try to keep up with a team whose breakout star is is known to run… and run… and run.

The Houston Rockets, with James Harden breaking out as a star in the NBA, can be dangerous to mid-level teams, like the 76ers. But, tonight, the Sixers needed to have someone that could handle Omer Asik, the Rockets 7’0″ center who went …
