Around the NFL: OTA Edition

Rob Gronkowski could be looking at a long road to recovery. With just over three months before the start of the 2013 NFL season, takes a look around the NFL to survey the competition.

Starting in New England, TE Rob Gronkowski will have his fourth surgery of this offseason to repair a broken forearm, and may face an additional surgery to replace a possible herniated disc in his spinal column. Gronkowski is New England’s best offensive weapon not named Tom Brady. While Gronk is expected to recover in time for camp, his recent medical history indicates that nothing is set in stone for the fourth year tight end.

Staying in the AFC East, recent reports more bad news from the New York Jets as recently signed …

Eagles Draft Day Rumors: Trade & Likely Pick

Could the Eagles really take Geno Smith with the 5th Overall Pick in tonight's 2013 NFL Draft?According to a front office member of a NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy working the phones in the last few days into today about moving back out of the #4 spot. The teams they’ve contacted start with the 5th pick Detroit Lions and as far back as Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. Talking with teams that far back in the draft means they’re looking for an accumulation of picks not only in this draft but the 2014 NFL Draft.

It’s not expected any team 5-8 (Detroit, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals & Buffalo Bills) will want to pay the price to swap with the Eagles …

What the Eagles Will Do on Draft Night. Guaranteed!

Dion Jordan could be re-joining Chip Kelly from Oregon to the Philadelphia Eagles if they decide to make him the #4 pick overall in tonight's NFL Draft. It’s NFL Draft night, a night that I personally wish did not exit since I was a large fan of draft weekend… but who cares what I want, it is what you want. This still is one of my favorite parts of the year; I read all the scouting reports, mock drafts, and waste many hours of my work day reading about people I have never heard of and may never hear of again. One fun part about drafts is that the fans sometimes (and by …

Will the Philadelphia Eagles Draft Tavon Austin? Expect the Unexpected

There are reports that Tavon Austin could be the Eagles 1st Round Draft Pick in tomorrow's 2013 NFL Draft.During an interview with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic, Sal Paolantonio offered a word of caution to Philadelphia Eagles fans.  He said, “If the two tackles [Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher] are off the board by the fourth pick, don’t be shocked if the Eagles select wide receiver Tavon Austin.”  Missanelli was appalled and pressed Sal Pal further, but Sal Pal simply responded, “All I’m saying is, don’t be shocked.”  I was driving home from work at the time and nearly swerved off the road.  Could Howie Roseman really have the diminutive West Virginia product that high …

Final 1st Round Mock Draft for 2013 NFL Draft

Luke Joeckel is projected to be the Number 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.Below is my projection for the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. The order is dictated by team need as well as player talent, and no trades are involved.

2013 NFL Draft Projection:

1. Kansas City Chiefs- Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M – With a trade for LT Brandon Albert reportedly in the works with the Dolphins, the Chiefs will solidify their offensive line here.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars- Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan- Fisher has  sparked the Jaguars’ interest, and should be a starter from day one.

3. Oakland Raiders- Shariff Floyd, DT Florida- Floyd is a dominant run stopping talent, and can fit a variety of schemes. The Raiders could …

Frequently Asked Questions; Eagles Draft Picks

Could Jason Kelce's brother Travis be someone on the Eagles radar in the 2013 NFL Draft?High Phive contributors Ben Haley and Josh Collachi collaborated to answer some pre-draft questions regarding the Eagles’ selections. Were you wondering about the lack of quarterback talent, who the Eagles are targeting, and what positions need addressing the most? Be assured there is no collusion here, only formulated draft analysis.

Q: What is the top priority for the Eagles in this year’s draft?

If not for free agency, there would have been numerous holes for the Eagles in this year’s draft. But, since the signing of Connor Barwin, Patrick Chung, Kenny Phillips, Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher, the impending need for defense has …

In Howard Roseman I Trust

Howie Roseman will make the decisions for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft.I pledge allegiance to Howard Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles…

Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are so linked in perpetuity that it may be easy to forget that Reid didn’t engineer the Philadelphia Eagles’ 1999 draft.  While the rookie head coach may have had some input, he did not draft Donovan McNabb, Tom Modrak did.  But my guess is, Big Red was kind of ok with it.  So here we are, an era later, and the Winter of Eagles’ Discontent has come and gone and left quite a mess in its wake.   But winter is no longer coming.  There is another fresh start ahead, a new …

With their First Selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, The Philadelphia Eagles Choose…Who?

Dee Milliner is one of the candidates that the Philadelphia Eagles can draft at their 4th overall pick. Now that the free agency dominoes have fallen, the NFL will now shift their collective focus to the premier event of the off-season, the NFL draft. The Eagles will draft in the top five for the first time since 1999, the same year Andy Reid chose Donovan McNabb  second overall just after the Browns drafted Tim Couch.  With a high draft pick comes a high salary, and thus necessity for grade A talent, and here lies the pressure for NFL general managers. The future of Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia tenure starts on April 25th, and his draft choice will influence his …
