2013 NFL Draft Recap: The Philadelphia Eagles

Matt Barkley's Twitter picture after he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 4th Round. No draft since 1999 has brought such hype and expectation to the Philadelphia Eagles. Chip Kelly, Howie Roseman, and Tom Gamble took the reins of the Eagles organization, and laid the framework for the Chip Kelly era in the draft. Prior to the draft, the Birds’ team needs were vast at : OL, CB, S, DE, TE, DT, and LB respectively. Through the draft, Kelly and his staff picked out diamonds in the rough in seemingly each of the six rounds they drafted in while addressing many of the team’s needs and finding great value with each selection.

The first round of the draft was very eventful for the Eagles, as Chip …

Phillies Lose Again 6-4, Chad Durbin, Geno Smith, Draft & Lane Johnson

Gaby Sanchez beat the Phillies again on Thursday as the Pirates defeated Cliff Lee & the Phillies 6-4.Our beloved Phillies sitting at a cool 9-13 (losers of 7 of the last 10), welcomed the 12-9 Pirates who, besides being 20th in runs scored, 24th in batting average, 21st in OBP, and 22nd in slugging are 9-3 in their last 12 games and are a half game out of first.  Jonathan Pettibone beat the Pirates, Roy Halladay could not, Cole Hamels could not, but Cliff Lee can right?  I guess you will have to read on and see (ignore the title of the article).

This was a nice day for baseball, it was close to …

At Last! The 2013 NFL Draft Begins

The 2013 NFL DraftEtta James sang it right in 1960, at last! Months of speculation have culminated in this moment; the 2013 NFL draft has begun, and the first pick is Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan. Andy Reid begins anew in Kansas City and goes back to his roots by selecting an offensive lineman in the first round.  As the Eagles’ former skipper, Reid drafted a lineman in all but four of his twelve first round draft choices. The Eagles did not pick in the first round in both 2007 and 2008. Fisher was just the 4th tackle taken with the first overall selection in the modern NFL draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars time in the spotlight is over, as they have selected Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M. Joeckel will be a much needed centerpiece as a Jaguar, and will influence the …

Will the Philadelphia Eagles Draft Tavon Austin? Expect the Unexpected

There are reports that Tavon Austin could be the Eagles 1st Round Draft Pick in tomorrow's 2013 NFL Draft.During an interview with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic, Sal Paolantonio offered a word of caution to Philadelphia Eagles fans.  He said, “If the two tackles [Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher] are off the board by the fourth pick, don’t be shocked if the Eagles select wide receiver Tavon Austin.”  Missanelli was appalled and pressed Sal Pal further, but Sal Pal simply responded, “All I’m saying is, don’t be shocked.”  I was driving home from work at the time and nearly swerved off the road.  Could Howie Roseman really have the diminutive West Virginia product that high …

Final 1st Round Mock Draft for 2013 NFL Draft

Luke Joeckel is projected to be the Number 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.Below is my projection for the first round of the 2013 NFL draft. The order is dictated by team need as well as player talent, and no trades are involved.

2013 NFL Draft Projection:

1. Kansas City Chiefs- Luke Joeckel, OT Texas A&M – With a trade for LT Brandon Albert reportedly in the works with the Dolphins, the Chiefs will solidify their offensive line here.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars- Eric Fisher, OT Central Michigan- Fisher has  sparked the Jaguars’ interest, and should be a starter from day one.

3. Oakland Raiders- Shariff Floyd, DT Florida- Floyd is a dominant run stopping talent, and can fit a variety of schemes. The Raiders could …

In Howard Roseman I Trust

Howie Roseman will make the decisions for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL Draft.I pledge allegiance to Howard Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles…

Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb are so linked in perpetuity that it may be easy to forget that Reid didn’t engineer the Philadelphia Eagles’ 1999 draft.  While the rookie head coach may have had some input, he did not draft Donovan McNabb, Tom Modrak did.  But my guess is, Big Red was kind of ok with it.  So here we are, an era later, and the Winter of Eagles’ Discontent has come and gone and left quite a mess in its wake.   But winter is no longer coming.  There is another fresh start ahead, a new …

Chip Kelly’s Pre-Draft Watch List; Getting to Know Some Potential Draftees

Geno Smith could be at the top of Chip Kelly's want list on Draft Day for the Eagles. The time between free agency and the NFL draft is the slowest portion of the NFL off-season. The free agent pool has been depleted, new rules implemented (sorry Marshawn), new logos created (looking good Miami), playbooks explored and re-written, all that is left is the final piece of the NFL personnel puzzle: the NFL draft. The Philadelphia Eagles will draft fourth overall in this year’s draft, and have eight other selections in addition. The Eagles have draft picks in each of the first five rounds, and four selections in the final round of the draft. With much help needed on the roster, and an …

With their First Selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, The Philadelphia Eagles Choose…Who?

Dee Milliner is one of the candidates that the Philadelphia Eagles can draft at their 4th overall pick. Now that the free agency dominoes have fallen, the NFL will now shift their collective focus to the premier event of the off-season, the NFL draft. The Eagles will draft in the top five for the first time since 1999, the same year Andy Reid chose Donovan McNabb  second overall just after the Browns drafted Tim Couch.  With a high draft pick comes a high salary, and thus necessity for grade A talent, and here lies the pressure for NFL general managers. The future of Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia tenure starts on April 25th, and his draft choice will influence his …

Philadelphia Eagles Offseason Plan

Is San Francisco 49ers Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman the next Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach?Every NFL fan is not just concerned with the team from September to February, we are in it for 365 days a year. The NFL offseason is the most important part of the rebuilding process, and unfortunately the Eagles are in that mode. After firing Andy Reid the Eagles are still looking for their coach. Chip Kelly is back to Oregon, Bill O’Brien is back to Penn State. This is GOOD news for Eagles fans. The Eagles, in my opinion, need a coach who has been around the NFL for a while, and has full commitment to the NFL. Greg Roman, Gus Bradley and Mike McCoy are my top three …

Eagles Potential Draftees for the 2013 NFL Draft

Could the Eagles draft Luke Joeckel in the 2013 NFL Draft? With one week left in the NFL season, all Eagles fans can cheer for now is a high draft pick. The Eagles can pick no higher than 4 but no lower than 10. Most likely they will hold the 4th, 5th or 6th pick. This year’s draft class is nowhere near last year’s in terms of QB, but it is a very deep class in other areas. The Eagles and whoever is running the show in late April, can NOT mess this one up. This is a direction changing draft pick, and can make or break a franchise.

Let’s take a look at who may be available when our Eagles are “on the clock.”

OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

No one can, will, or has been “excited” about drafting an offensive lineman, …
