Spring Cleaning Has Started for 76ers: Sam Hinkie New General Manager

The chips have started to fall for the 76ers. The first to go, and rightly so, is Tony DiLeo. DiLeo, while a good company man, isn’t a GM and the only reason he was put in that position is that Rod Thorn, who’s also leaving, had one last bad decision to make.

The 76ers have hired Houston Rockets Assistant GM, Sam Hinkie as their new general manager. Hinkie is considered a highly intelligent basketball man who has helped shape the Rockets over the past couple of years with shrewd draft and free agent moves.

Being a Devil’s Advocate for the 76ers

I remember being in Wildwood the day the 76ers traded for Andrew Bynum, I remember being told it went through by the guy working at Sam’s Pizza (the best pizza in Wildwood by the way), I also remember the tingle of excitement I felt when I heard it actually happened. 76ers Need Substance This Offseason & Forget Doug Collins

It’s been a couple of weeks since the Philadelphia 76ers (34-48) ended their season with a 105-95 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Doug Collins is out as Head Coach and Jrue Holiday is the assists leader for the Eastern Conference. That’s about all there is for the good news. That’s not really the truth, but there’s not much to be happy about with the 2012-13 76ers.

In the NBA there are five types of teams. The upper echelon of teams, who are perennial contenders to win the NBA title. These teams are the Spurs, Thunder, Heat, Lakers (except this season) and Clippers. What do all these teams have in common? A superstar. The next kind of NBA team is the team that will be good, but they do not have enough to win a title. The Grizzlies, Nuggets, Pacers, Bulls (without Derrick Rose) and Nets of the world fit here. The Doug Collins as Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach era has now officially been closed with Collins resigning to take a consultant role with the team. This was not unexpected as it’s been rumored for the last week or so that Collins was going to be another Head Coach for the 76ers that does not make it long. As the season is coming to a close, the news of Doug Collins inevitable departure from the Philadelphia 76ers is not surprising. Many have expected this or at least insisted it should happen. The Philadelphia 76ers started this season with a lot of promise and a huge question mark. The promise came from last seasons playoff berth, the expected improvement of Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner, and the arrival of Andrew Bynum. They’re playing to finish strong in a season where it seems that nothing has gone right. 76ers Lack of Power Does Them In a Nets Win 104-83

It’s the story we’ve come to know all too well this year as the opposing teams big men overpower what the 76ers put on the floor. This time is was Brook Lopez with 29 points and 11 rebounds teaming with Reggie Evans who finished with 17 points and 24 rebounds to help lead the Brooklyn Nets (45-32) beat up on the 76ers (31-46) by a final score of 104-83.

This is it folks. The last two weeks of the NBA regular season and the 76ers have nothing to play for now.
